Capitalize on a carbon-free technology that provides a scalable combination of electric power, high temperature, and high pressure to produce green hydrogen at a significantly lower cost and with greater safety.
Due to its high energy density, ease of transport, carbon-free combustion and multiplicity of uses, hydrogen is increasingly viewed as the ideal clean energy source of the future, opening up what is often called the hydrogen economy. Existing methods of producing hydrogen are expensive, carbon-intensive, pose significant safety risks or have a combination of these challenges. Geothermal hydrogen production using a closed-loop geothermal system in appropriate geothermal resources addresses all of these challenges but is especially useful in addressing the principal limiting factor: cost. GreenFire Energy has developed a system and method for reducing the costs of hydrogen production by up to 30% and compression costs by 24%.
GreenLoop Technology
GreenFire’s GreenLoop technology substantially improves the efficiency of a variety of electrolytic and thermochemical hydrogen production methods.
Closed-Loop Architecture
Our GreenLoop technology’s underground geothermal closed-loop system collects heat from the resource and provides the various reaction chambers for hydrogen production. GreenLoop thereby takes direct advantage of the high down bore heat from the geothermal resource, the high pressures at which hydrogen is created and maintained down bore, and the ability of geothermal resources to make electricity for electrolysis processes. Producing hydrogen in an underground closed-loop also provides an extra measure of safety compared to surface systems.
GreenFire Energy has patented down bore hydrogen production with its GreenLoop technology using a variety of production methods, including various electrolysis methods for producing green hydrogen and various thermochemical methods for using hydrocarbon fuels with reduced carbon emissions to create what is regarded as blue hydrogen.
Advanced Well and Process Modeling Capability
GreenFire Energy has developed highly sophisticated thermodynamic models to optimize closed-loop well systems with or without coproduction of geothermal brine to optimize the production and efficiency of several established and certain developing hydrogen production methods. These models allow customers to readily compare the costs and benefits of various hydrogen production methods based on local resources, costs of inputs, electrical power prices and other market variables. Precision modeling is used to optimize the subsurface design and to select appropriate surface equipment.
