Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) selects GreenFire Energy to implement GreenLoop in the Olkaria region

2022

  • California Energy Commission (CEC) awards $2.7 million grant to implement Steam Dominated GreenLoop at The Geysers geothermal field, California
  • Series A financing is led by Baker Hughes and includes Helmerich & Payne and Vallourec
  • Wells2Watts Consortium creates the first-ever closed-loop geothermal testing facility with GreenLoop to be tested in first phase

2021

  • EDC selects GreenFire Energy to restore a high-NCG production well using a surface reboiler
  • GreenFire Energy wins in PIVOT2021 New Venture competition

2020

  • CEC report published on the ECO2G demonstration results 
  • ECO2G rebranded to GreenFire’s GreenLoop® (GreenLoop)

2019

First-ever field scale demonstration of closed-loop geothermal (ECO2G) at the Coso geothermal field, California

2017-2018

  • GreenFire Energy Selected for Shell GameChanger Program
  • CEC awards grant of $1.48 million to demonstrate ECO2G

2016

  • Begin to develop robust computer models
  • Original closed-loop U-loop design evolves to a coaxial downbore heat exchanger

2015

  • Joseph Scherer joins as CEO and President
  • John Muir becomes SVP Business Development

2014

  • GreenFire Partners incorporates to become GreenFire Energy Inc. with headquarters in Emeryville, California
  • Original closed-loop design is a U-loop and branded as ECO2G

2013

  • Focus shifts to commercial-scale closed-loop design, the first company to do this. Original CO2G development was dependent on EGS technology which was slow in coming to market
  • Begin filing patents for closed-loop geothermal energy systems

2010-2012

  • U.S. Department of Energy awards $2 million grant for CO2G demonstration
  • GreenFire Partners develops intellectual property of CO2G at the St. Johns Dome, Arizona and New Mexico border

2009

GreenFire Partners focuses solely on geothermal with the development of CO2 EGS (CO2G) using supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) as the geothermal fluid

2007-2008

Mark Muir, Randy Balik, and Alan Eastman found GreenFire Partners LLC to focus on the utilization of CO2 with biofuels and geothermal
